Supports1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB DIMMs. Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems. NOTE:32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. Supports up to 32 GB on 64-bit systems. NOTE:Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system. Supports up to 32 GB on 64-bit systems
Itoften amazes me when the E6420 can actually look good against the younger machines. But still, the memory needs upgrading. Leave one of the 2GB and add the 8GB for 10GB total. The first 2GB of the 8Gb stick and the single 2GB stick will work as Dual Channel/Dual Interleave.

Stickwith 8gb ram (2x 4gb) Upgrade to 12gb ram (1x 4gb, 1x 8gb) Upgrade to 20gb ram (1x4gb, 1x 16gb) Here are my specs: - AMD Ryzen 5 4500U Processor. - 8gb ram DDR4 (2x 4gb) (motherboard allows maximum 24gb installed) - 512 GB SSD. Thank you.

Numberof memory slots: 4: Base memory: 4 GB (but is configured to order) Maximum memory: 16 GB For iMac (Late 2009), you can use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot. For iMac (Mid 2010) and iMac (Mid 2011), use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot. Youcan't mix RAM sizes. The majority of the laptops out there are built with at least two RAM slots or more. However, the more modern motherboards have four RAM slots. There is this misconception that you can't use a mixture of RAM sizes like combining a 4GB and an 8GB simultaneously or going as far as mixing RAM brands. . 485 140 66 51 332 291 132 308
